Mahindra Auto is working to give the Thar lifestyle off-road SUV a major update. This SUV was updated in 2025 with subtle feature bump and the following update will be classified as a facelift. There are changes in design, especially with the fascia, bringing it closer to Thar Roxx, which is the 5-Door version of Thar.
Testing has been going on for some time now and test mules look like they have reached production specification. The recent spy shots from Sudeepto Roy Suvro could indicate final testing of this upcoming SUV. Launch is expected to happen soon.
Mahindra Thar Facelift Spied
Thar facelift has been spied testing on public roads way before the 2025 Thar update was launched. The test mules suggest that the facelift might bring Thar closer to Thar Roxx as many design elements look like they’re shared with Thar Roxx. This is likely to fall well with target demographic of Thar SUV, making this lifestyle SUV more premium.
At the front, we now see a new grille, which is inspired by or could be the same as Thar Roxx’s front grille. We can see circular projector LED headlights with C-shaped LED DRLs, which are shared with the Roxx. Bumper may be the same as Thar Roxx including LED fog lights with cornering function.
We don’t see a lot of changes at the rear as the basic DNA is carried forward. Tailgate mounted spare wheel and split tailgate design look like they’re the same. LED tail lights might see a slight refresh and same may be the case with its rear bumper. The same side silhouette as current model is carried forward with Thar facelift, as primary changes are at the front.
However, wheels are different with Thar facelift. There is a probability of them being 18-inchers as current model, but the design is changed as seen in previous spy shots. Other additions expected with Thar facelift include 360-degree cameras along with rear disc brakes and maybe front and side parking sensors.
Updated Interiors?
On the inside, one can expect Mahindra Thar facelift to get more features like TFT instrument cluster, auto climate control, auto dimming IRVM, ventilated front seats with perforated leatherette upholstery along with Level-2 ADAS, at least as an option with the higher-spec LX trim for added safety. We also wish there are Harman Kardon speakers and soft touch plastics like in Thar Roxx.
Where powertrains are concerned, Mahindra Thar facelift is expected to come with the same trio of engines as current model. These include a 1.5L Turbo Diesel, a 2.0L Turbo Petrol and a 2.2L Turbo Diesel. While 1.5L Diesel is expected to offer only a manual gearbox and RWD, latter engines will offer automatic gearbox option and 4WD capabilities.
