JSW Group is expanding their operations and are doubling down in the automotive industry. The company has already set foot in India’s automotive scene with JSW MG Motor India and has signed an MoU with Skoda Auto for electric platform joint venture. JSW Group also intends to establish an independent brand as well, partnering with China’s Chery Automobile.

The maiden vehicle from JSW Motors will launch some time around Diwali and it is expected to be based on Chery Jetour T2. JSW Motors has patented multiple names for this SUV, but the name JSW Combat seems to have been finalized ahead of its launch.

JSW Combat Name Likely

For its independent venture into India’s automotive industry, JSW Motors had trademarked multiple names in the recent past, which leaked from IP directory. These include JSW Combat, JSW Urbanique, JSW Dominor, JSW Adventura, JSW Eleve, JSW Sereno and JSW Cadet.

Now, recent reports suggest that JSW Motors will use the name JSW Combat for their maiden SUV based on Chery’s Jetour T2. The name Combat is befitting an SUV that looks like T2 and radiates that much road presence with its boxy silhouette and macho appearance. Jetour T2 measures up to 4,785 mm long, 2,006 mm wide, 1,870 mm tall and has a 2,800 mm wheelbase.

When compared to other names JSW Motors had trademarked, Combat has the most appeal and is expected to work well for the brand’s maiden SUV. For India, JSW Motors is expected to bring in the plug-in Hybrid version of Jetour T2 for India, which is called “i-DM”, not to be confused with BYD’s “DM-i” hybrid system which is also launching in India with Sealion 6 PHEV.

What to expect?

Chery Jetour T2, or JSW Combat, will come with aggressive pricing strategy to make a mark in this highly contested segment. If priced around Rs 30 lakh and Rs 50 lakh (Ex-sh), JSW Combat will go against the likes of Toyota Fortuner and MG Majestor, both of which are not plug-in Hybrid.

Macho styling, 20-inch alloy wheels, squarish headlights, massive JSW branding, rugged and intimidating road presence, 15.6-inch infotainment screen, 10.6-inch instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, premium audio system, 540-degree camera with underbody view, electrically operated and ventilated front seats, ADAS with adaptive cruise and auto emergency braking are some of the features JSW Combat is likely to pack.

Speaking of pack, JSW Combat comes with an 18.4 kWh battery pack globally, which is complimented by 1.5L Turbo Petrol engine. There are two electric motors in the equation and peak total system output 360 bhp and 610 Nm. There is a 3-speed hybrid gearbox and JSW could offer both FWD and AWD layout, or only FWD layout for Indian market.
