The latest teaser not only reveals more of MG’s first ADAPT-based electric SUV, but also strongly hints at its final name – Hector Tomahawk
JSW MG Motor India has released a fresh teaser of its upcoming electric SUV, offering new glimpses of the vehicle while dropping what appears to be its biggest clue yet. Alongside revealing more of the SUV’s design, MG has prominently featured a Curtiss P-40 Tomahawk World War II fighter aircraft in the teaser video. This comes just weeks after the company trademarked the Hector Tomahawk name in India, strongly suggesting that this will be the official name of its upcoming electric SUV.
Teaser hints at Hector Tomahawk name
MG has traditionally used British-inspired names for its Indian portfolio such as Hector, Gloster, Windsor and Comet. The latest teaser appears to continue that theme. The aircraft featured alongside the SUV is not a modern fighter jet or the Tomahawk cruise missile. Instead, it is the Curtiss P-40 Tomahawk, a World War II single-engine fighter aircraft produced by Curtiss-Wright from 1939. It was widely operated by British Commonwealth forces during the early years of the war.
The aircraft appears repeatedly throughout the teaser, parked alongside the SUV inside a hangar. Considering MG has already trademarked Hector Tomahawk in India last month, this looks like a deliberate clue rather than a random background prop.
More design details revealed
The new teaser also offers the clearest look yet at MG’s upcoming electric SUV. While the overall body remains partially hidden in shadows, several styling elements are now visible. The SUV features a long, upright profile with pronounced wheel arches and roof rails, reinforcing its family-oriented character.
The teaser highlights distinctive pixel-style LED lighting elements at both the front and rear. One frame also reveals the charging port integrated into the front fender, accompanied by the message “One That Runs Electric”, confirming once again that the first ADAPT-based production vehicle will be a pure EV.
Another teaser image shows the interior layout from above, confirming a three-row seating configuration, in line with earlier expectations that the India-spec version will be offered as a seven-seater. MG also uses taglines such as “One That’s Bigger Than Anyone Imagined” and “One That Makes Room For More”, hinting at the SUV’s spacious cabin and positioning as a premium family vehicle.
First MG ADAPT SUV
The upcoming SUV will become the first production model based on MG’s new ADAPT architecture, which was unveiled earlier this year. The modular platform has been designed to support multiple powertrain options including battery electric (BEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), strong hybrid and range-extender technologies. However, MG has already confirmed that the first model on this platform will launch exclusively as a battery electric vehicle.
The India-spec SUV is expected to be based on the globally sold Wuling Starlight 560, although with several market-specific updates. Earlier spy shots have revealed styling elements such as slim LED DRLs, vertically stacked headlamp housings, connected LED tail lamps and an upright SUV stance.
Expected powertrain and launch
Based on information available so far, the electric SUV is expected to feature a front-mounted electric motor producing around 204 PS and 310 Nm, paired with a 69.2 kWh LFP battery pack. Claimed range is likely to be around 530 km (CLTC), although final India-spec figures will be announced at launch. A plug-in hybrid version is also expected to join the range later, utilising the same ADAPT platform.
With the latest teaser and the prominent Tomahawk aircraft references, it now appears increasingly likely that MG’s upcoming flagship electric SUV will be called Hector Tomahawk EV. The model is expected to make its full debut later this month, taking on rivals such as Mahindra XEV 9S in India’s growing premium electric SUV segment.
