Hero MotoCorp is the brand that started the off-road adventure motorcycle genre for the mainstream in 2011 with the launch of Impulse. It was on sale till 2017 and was replaced by Xpulse 200 in 2019, featuring a larger engine. Impulse was way ahead of its time, but was underappreciated by mainstream audiences at the time.
Now, the company seems to be working on a resurgence with the Impulse as new trademark documents surface, showing a more affordable and cost-effective ADV off-roader bike with what looks like a smaller engine.
New Hero ADV Patent Leaks
Hero MotoCorp has a massive pull in the country’s motorcycle segment, but is also a popular brand in markets like South America and Africa. There have been export-specific motorcycles that Hero manufactures in India, but are not on sale here. One such bike could be this new patent that has leaked.
It features an off-road motorcycle that looks like it has a carbureted engine with a kick starter. And this engine also looks like it might be displacing around 150cc to 200cc and it is an air cooled engine without a hint of an oil cooling radiator. So, something more affordable below Xpulse 200 which comes with an oil cooled engine.
An electric starter might be on offer as there is some premium air to this machine. We say this because it gets disc brakes at both ends, sturdy-looking rear luggage rack, an up-swept exhaust, a front beak and long travel suspension at both ends. Wheels are wire-spoke units and front wheel is larger in size.
Design & Aesthetics
In terms of design, this new Hero ADV motorcycle looks slimmer than Xpulse lineup currently on offer. There is a front beak, which acts as a defining attribute of this genre. The headlight design looks like it is an extension of Impulse from back in the day. There seems to be LED DRLs and even LED projector headlights on this bike.
Fuel tank looks slim, but the tank shrouds extend outwards, adding some muscle into the equation. Side body panels are simple too and they remind us of the Impulse as well. There’s a single-piece seat, LED blinkers, LED tail lights, and an instrument cluster that looks similar to the one seen on Xpulse 200.
As is, Hero is not likely to launch this motorcycle in India owing to stricter emission norms that need a fuel injector. This patent shows a carbureted engine. Maybe a version of this motorcycle with Xtreme 160R 4V engine and TFT instrument cluster from Xpulse 210 and even Xtreme 125R could make a lot of sense for the Indian market.
