Expected to be around 4.2m-4.4m in length, Hyundai Bayon will be positioned between the Venue and Creta
Hyundai is aggressively eyeing the Indian market with plans to launch 26 cars by 2030. One of these is a Bayon-based midsize ICE SUV (internally codenamed BC4i) that will challenge rivals like Maruti Victoris.
This new SUV will help Hyundai strengthen its presence in the midsize segment, where it already dominates with Creta. The new Bayon-based SUV is expected to be introduced soon. Ahead of that, latest spy shots have revealed the interior of this SUV.
Hyundai Bayon interior revealed
Spotted multiple times in production-ready guise, the Bayon-based SUV appears to be undergoing its final stages of testing. Key features spotted in the latest spy shots include dual integrated screens for the infotainment and digital cluster. The steering wheel appears to be identical to that of the new Venue.
Interiors are finished in dual tone shade of black and white. Steering wheel has the 4 dots, like is seen in new Hyundai cars (instead of the Hyundai H logo in the center). A minimalist design approach has been used for the dashboard, which appears to have a flat top panel.
However, finer details are not evident due to the heavy camouflage on the inside. Chrome accents are likely there on the dashboard. With the limited visuals available, interiors appear spacious and designed for comfort. Headroom for the driver seems just okay, although the experience will vary depending on the user’s height.
Exterior highlights
Outside, key features spotted include a 360-degree camera setup and a new contemporary design for the ORVMs. The test mule appears to be using a new colour, something like Golden Bronze seen on the Exter. To suit practical needs, the SUV is equipped with conventional pull-type door handles.
Bayon-based midsize SUV has an upright front fascia with H-styled top mounted LED DRLs. Other key features expected include a slatted grille design and trapezoidal housings for the headlamps. Side profile has prominent wheel arch cladding, sporty alloy wheels and an angular design for the window frames. On the roof you can also notice a sunroof.
Overall design aligns with Hyundai’s latest ‘Art of Steel’ design philosophy. Other key features include functional roof rails and a shark fin antenna. At the rear, the Bayon-based SUV has a raked windshield, a chunky bumper and parking sensors. Lighting elements are expected to have the same basic design format as seen at the front.
Powertrain options
It is expected that the Bayon-based SUV for India will be offered with petrol and CNG powertrain options. This combo will be useful when handling rivals like Maruti Victoris. If the Bayon gets CNG option, it will be Hyundai’s first car above 4 meters to use this greener fuel. Hyundai could use a dual-cylinder CNG setup to ensure that the boot space is not compromised.
Choice of engine could be the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated unit in use with the Creta. This engine generates 115 PS and 143.8 Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and an IVT unit. It is expected that the Bayon-based SUV will be positioned as a more accessible option in comparison to Creta.
